New Delhi, Nov 23: Congress president Sonia Gandhi
on Sunday said divisive politics might help some people gain power
but they could not escape the responsibility of plunging the
country's future into darkness.
"Those who create fear in the name of religion or caste
may come to power for some days. But, they cannot escape the
responsibility of plunging the future of the country into
darkness," she told an election rally here.
"Divisive politics is a major challenge before the
country," Gandhi said soliciting votes for her party nominees
for the upcoming Delhi Assembly poll.
Without naming anyone, the Congress chief said people
would have to choose between those spreading hatred and her
Congress party which had been working for overall development
of the country.
Turning to terrorism, she said it had no religion and
the UPA government was fully aware of the dangers posed by it.
"Terrorists are terrorists. They have only one religion --
to spread terror in society," she said.
"We consider it (terrorism) a national issue and want to
take all communities with us to address the problem. We want
everybody's support," the UPA chairperson said.
"It is the responsibility of every political party to
ensure that terrorism is not linked to any social group," she
said.
Lauding achievements of the Sheila Dikshit government,
Gandhi said it had taken Delhi on the path to development.
Despite capital's burgeoning population, the Congress
government had strove hard to provide basic amenities to
people, she said.
Referring to country's economy, she said it was very
strong and the entire world was aware of this.
Shiela Dikshit also addressed the rally which was
attended among others by Union Minister Kapil Sibal and Delhi
Congress chief J P Agarwal.
