Jammu, Sept 21: Two militants and an Army jawan were killed in fierce gunbattles in Jammu and Kashmir where the Army pushed back ultras who had infiltrated into the country under the cover of firing from the Pakistani side along the Line of Control.

"A group of armed militants entered the Indian territory from Kabaristan post of Pakistan and were trapped by troops close to Kalash Indian Post between Zero line and border fencing along LoC in Poonch district today," defence officials told a news agency.

"We have foiled an infiltration bid from Pakistan side," they said.

A jawan -- sepoy Chiba of One Assam Regiment-- was killed in the gunbattle which started this morning and was continuing till tonight, they said adding that the infiltration bid by militants followed heavy cross-border firing on Indian positions along LoC since yesterday.

"As the area is heavily mined, it has made the operation very difficult," officials said.

Unconfirmed reports said that a militant has also been killed and his body is lying on the mined area. Another fierce gunbattle broke out between militants and army troops in Gool area of Ramban district this evening when army launched a cordon and search operation in the area, they said.
