Defence Ministry suggests quality waiver to fill posts

New Delhi, July 18: In a bid to meet the dearth of officers in armed forces, the Defence Ministry has suggested to all the three services a "one-time waiver" in Quality Requirements (QR) on recruitment besides taking a fresh look on premature retirements of its personnel.

In a letter to the Army, IAF and Indian Navy, a senior Defence Ministry official of the rank of Special Secretary has suggested that the "services may consider the feasibility of conducting a special drive to fill up the vacancies by giving a one-time dispensation in the QRs."

The total number of vacancies in the armed forces is more than 13,000.

While pointing out that the rejection of candidates at Service Selection Board was 95 per cent, the letter said there was no dearth of applicants to serve in the armed forces.

"As a matter of fact there is an overwhelming response to all the entries for which recruitment is open to the general public.

"It is pointed out time and again by the Services that large number of these candidates do not meet the QR," the letter said and asked whether the armed forces had "any action plan to revisit their parameters of QRs."

The letter also pointed out that a large number of officers were granted premature retirement on some ground or the other -- a practice which needed to be reviewed.

The babu who thought about this should be asked whether he would like to do the same to his organisation. I am sure that this man has no ideas about the qualities required to lead men in battle. Instead of improvement in the forces, this man is talking about accepting the opposite which is not good for any organisation and especially those you expect to protect your country, build an image of stregnth in the world and assist to ensure that the country becomes a regional power. Even now politicians do not have the guts to strongly condemn the Chinese, when they carry out anti India activities. Maybe next we will reach a level that we will not be able to handle Pakistan.

What a shameful idea..! Will these IInd grade officers muster courage and wits matching to those heroes like capts Samir Batra or Anuj Aiyer to stand un-nerved against an enemy onslaught in Kargil if a situation arise...?

Idiotic suggestion.
Just double the pay of the officers.
Hang that bureucrate of MoD

This is typical response of indian burocratic setup of MoD. They neither have caliber to analyse the problem, nor they want to listen to some good advice. Instead of removing the cause of shortage of officers like poor pay and promotion, Harsh life, bad facilities etc, He is suggesting diluting the standards for officers entry. Next they will come out with reservations etc also. On top of that, He is suggesting blanket ban on premature release! so that 13 Lakh soldiers become state prisoners. Rename Min of Defence (MoD) as Ministry of Distruction (of country).

This officer should be immediately sacked. How did he ever rise to hold such a senior post.Obviously for him paying low wages to defence personnel is more important than ensuring defence of the country.Next time he falls ill he should be denied competent medical help, instead he should be asked to go to a quack to save money. God save our country.
