New Delhi, March 28: In yet another example of breach of security in the highly protected areas, a police constable on Friday fired shots outside Prime Minister’s Office located in South Block.

A commando, identified as Sanjay, has sustained injuries in the firing incident. The injured commando has been rushed to the Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the constable was deployed in Police Control Room van code named Victor 37, stationed outside the Prime Minister’s Office.

An eyewitness account said that a Delhi Armed Police constable shot in the thigh of his colleague.

Officials of the Special Protection Group immediately rushed to the spot and took control of the situation. There are reports that intelligence agencies officials are also on location. The authorities are taking the matter seriously and interrogating the constable to determine whether this is a case of accidental firing or is an intentional act.

However, it is also unconfirmed whether the shots were fired from the assault rifles normally provided to the security forces, light machine gun or ordinary rifles.

Meanwhile, the security has been beefed up and senior officials are looking into the matter for all possible angles.
