New York, Nov 07: Taking a bite out of this bagel is going to take a bite out
of your wallet. New York City chef Frank Tujague created a luxury version of one of the city's staple foods and it comes with a USD1,000 price tag.
Frank Tujague, Executive Chef, the Westin New York at Times Square said:"I wanted something that speaks to New York. So what speaks to New York better than a bagel? But we just didn't want a regular bagel, we wanted something that would promote seasonal ingredients and fine ingredients as well. So I thought about the season we were in and the first thing that jumped into my mine was white truffles."
This extravagant creation comes complete with white truffle
cream cheese, goji berry infused Riesling jelly and 23-karat edible gold leaves.
But you don't have to feel too guilty about taking a bite.
Frank Tujague, added, "100 percent of the proceeds are donated to the Les Amis d'Escoffier, which in English means 'Friends of the d'Escoffier Society'. They are a foundation that sponsors the culinary arts, and we donate it to the scholarship fund for future students."
And the USD1000 price tag also includes tax and tip.
So if truffle cream cheese sounds like something worth
trying, planning ahead is a must. The decadent bagel must
be ordered 24 hours in advance and will only be served
until December 14.
