10 BSP women candidates taste victory

Lucknow, May 13: Defying pollsters and political analysts,
BSP's elephant not only emerged as triumphant but has also garnered
a maximum number of women members in 15th legislative assembly.
Interestingly, BSP fielded lesser women candidates in the
hustings, in comparison to its rival national players.
The Congrees gave maximum 36 tickets to the women candidates, the
BJP and SP fielded 30 and 27 women respectively, whereas the BSP
gave ticket to only 14 women candidates out of which 10.
Alltogether 351 women candidates contested in the just-held
assembly election.
Results show that five women candidates from the BJP, four from
SP and one each from RLD and Congress have been elected as MLA.
Kalyan Singh's daughter-in-law Premlata Devi, fielded on BJP
ticket won from Atrauli.
Rani Amita Singh (Congress) and Vimlesh Kumari (RLD) are the
elected candidates for the 15th assembly.
There were 24 women MLAs in the 14th assembly.
