London, Jan 25: Italian Designer Valentino is one of the biggest names in the fashion biz, and now he has joined the bandwagon of people calling on the industry to stop having “skeletons” on the runways, and return to models with fuller figures.
The designer insisted that he has had “enough” of thin models, especially after seeing “skeletons” and not women walking on the catwalk.
"I think enough is enough with thin models. Recently we have not been watching women on the catwalk but a parade of skeletons," the Daily Mail quoted him, as saying.
Valentino revealed that he now wants “fuller women” to model his clothes.
"I want a more fuller woman, proud of her femininity, with fuller sides, more life and a fuller bust. Elegant but with more emphasis on the curves," he said.
The 74-year old designer made the comments at the Paris catwalk shows that were held recently, in reaction to French fashion bosses’ refusal to ban zero-size models who experts insist encourage impressionable teens to develop eating disorders.
The designer set an example for others to follow when his models for his Paris show included women who “were far fleshier, more like normal women.”
Valentino, who not only created the wedding dress that Jackie Kennedy wore when she wed Aristotle Onaissis, has also created ensembles for some of the most famous names in Hollywood such as Oscar winners Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Halle Berry.
He has also dressed royalty such as Crown Princess Maxima of the Netherlands, Crown Princess Mette Merit of Norway and Princess Marie Chantal of Greece.
