BJP blames Congress for ULFA strike in Assam
Updated on Saturday, January 06, 2007, 00:00 IST
New Delhi, Jan 06: The BJP on Saturday blamed the Congress for ULFA strikes in Assam and alleged that the ruling party had taken the militant outfit's help during elections.

"The Congress has been frequently taking the help of ULFA cadre during elections. Hence, there is vested interest in not taking action against them," BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

His comments came in the wake of ULFA militants gunning down 26 people and wounding five others in three separate attacks in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts, a day after killing 19 people in the same localities of Assam.

"This massacre of innocent people is the result of the negligence of the state's Congress government and of the indifference of the Congress-led government at the Centre," Prasad said.

He sought central intervention to protect the life and liberty of people of Assam and tough action against ULFA.
