Washington, Dec 04: Hollywood heavyweight Mel Gibson has blasted movie bosses for serving up “sequel after sequel”, and insists that movie audiences want original films.
Gibson, whose new movie “Apocalypto” will soon hit theatres around the world, insists that audiences were now tired of sequels of hit movies, and were “starving to death” for something new.
That’s one of the reasons why, Gibson revealed to Empire magazine, that he knew his movie ‘The Passion of the Christ’ would be a hit among movie buffs.
"I knew there was a huge hunger out there for a different kind of film. I think that often at times people ignore the audience, they just keep serving them up the same thing. It's sequel after sequel after sequel," Contactmusic quoted him, as telling Empire.
Gibson, who himself starred in four hit ‘Lethal Weapon’ movies, said that movie bosses and makers need to be aware that the need of the hour was new ideas, and not sequels.
"I think they're starving to death and they want to be enriched. They want a good yarn, they want to be involved," he added.
