Man gets 10-year sentence
A Delhi court has sentenced a
former Delhi Police head constable to ten years rigorous
imprisonment for raping his minor niece whom he had taken in
adoption from her natural parents.

Raj Kumar Sharma, 60, was held guilty of sexually
assaulting and raping his niece for 12 years during her stay
with him since she was three-year-old.
"...The prosecution has established beyond doubt that the
accused sexually exploited the prosecutrix during her stay
with him in Delhi and after her departure to Rewa in Madhya
Pradesh (for higher education)," additional sessions judge S
P Garg said convicting him.
The court rejected Sharma's defence that he was
implicated in the case as there was a property dispute with
the girl's family.
The victim herself had registered a complaint against her
uncle at the Defence Colony police station on January 31,
2004 in this regard and even had said that she had attempted
suicide to get rid of the sexual exploitation and mental
agony.
