New York City, June 01: Pop singer Mariah Carey will hit the road this summer,
three years after her last arena tour was downsized to
theaters. But before getting into the tour bus, the diva
got a little bit of well-orchestrated publicity in New
York, with Gillette Venus naming her the first, 'Celebrity
Legs of a Goddess' and giving her an award - for her legs.
Carey, clad in a short black dress unveiled a
sixteen-foot likeness of her legs at Radio City Music Hall
in Manhattan. She said she was honored to get the award
and that as a child she could never have imagined having a
giant replica of her legs. "It's amazing and it's really
great because it's kind of so tied in with my tour in terms
of just how festive and you know it is about me being in
shape and about me being really like grounded and you need
your legs to be, you need to be strong, you need to be able
to kind of be strong internally and strong externally,"
Carey said.
Her new tour, crisply titled 'Adventures of Mimi: The
Voice, The Hits, The Tour' gets underway August 5 in Miami,
and dates are on tap through October 10 in Ph nix. Sean
Paul will open the majority of the tour's first portion,
with other openers to be announced.
Tickets begin going on sale June 2. The tour comes in
support of Carey's smash hit album 'The Emancipation of
Mimi,' which has sold nine million copies worldwide,
according to Island Def Jam. The album captured three
Grammy awards this year and recently passed its one year
anniversary on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and includes
Mariah's 16th and 17th No. 1 career singles, 'We Belong
Together' and 'Don't Forget About Us', respectively.
During the tour, Carey promises to also perform several
tunes from her back catalog live for the first time.
Other news circulating about Carey was that she
recently had her legs insured for a billion dollars. The
comeback diva turned coy when asked whether the rumor about
her leg insurance was true.
"I don't like to talk about money but I would
definitely say that if your legs were insured for a billion
dollars, it wouldn't be the best thing to go around talking
about it," she smiled and said.
While Carey was shy about her long legs and the
insurance rumor, the star was eager to talk about her
upcoming tour, saying that she was really doing it for her
fans and that she saw it as a chance to get in touch with
seeing the people that she performs for. She added that she
was also looking forward to performing new hits on the
tour.
Apart from the tour, Carey has her hands full these
days with preparations for a new film project called
'Tennessee' with Oscar award winning producer Lee Daniels.
Carey said that Daniels approached her after seeing her in
an independent film and that she was learning a 'different
approach' to music while getting ready for the shooting.
She is studying a variety of music genres and also
recently learned to play the guitar for her role as a
waitress in the film.
