Updated on Thursday, May 25, 2006, 00:00 IST
Mumbai, May 25: Aamir Khan completely ruled out apologizing for his comments on the Narmada dam issue. He said that he was saying exactly what the SC had stated.

BJP has nothing to do with Aamir's Fanaa: Javedkar

In a press conference the versatile actor said that he never alleged anything against the construction of the dam. He was only raising his voice for the poor farmers, who would be displaced by raising the height of the Narmada dam.

Aamir reiterated that he would be one of the first persons to congratulate all the four state governments if they would rehabilitate the poor farmers, who would be displaced as a result of the construction of the dam.

The star of ‘Fanaa’ said that he had nothing against the people of Gujarat and was raising his voice for poor people. He also stated that he would raise his voice against riots, terrorists and terror organisations anywhere in the world as well as oppression on the name of religion.

Defending his right to speak his mind, Aamir questioned why he was being criticized for airing his views in a democracy. He said he would continue to speak about and do what he felt was right.

Coming down heavily against the BJP, Aamir Khan said that the national party does not believe in democracy but in fighting and crushing all voices that do not agree with it.

Answering a question, Aamir said that he did not feel that he was being targetted because he was a Muslim. He categorically stated that he was an Indian first.

On the boycott of his film in Gujarat, Aamir said he was not bothered if the film was not released in the state and the entire film unit was behind him. Nevertheless, he continued, that he would like the people of Gujarat to see the film anyhow. He said he was confident that the people who want to watch the film will find a way as they always do.

Fanaa to hit theatres tomorrow; Adlabs, Inox to screen the movie

Meanwhile, Fanaa touted by the critics as one of the most awaited films of 2006, will hit the theatres tomorrow. But Fanaa has become the most-talked about movie already for several others reasons also.

Firstly, Aamir Khan, who plays a terrorist in the movie, attracted the wrath of BJP leaders in Gujarat by raising his voice on Narmada Bachao Andolan. The Gujarat Multiplex Owners Association has already announced the boycott of the film.

Secondly, Yash Raj Films, the producer and distributor of the film, are engaged in a tiff with the multiplex owners of the other states for reportedly demanding more profit margins from them. The multiplexes have threatened to boycott the film as giving more share would actually lead to the hike in the prices of the tickets to the tune of almost 75%.

Reports also suggest that as many as 90 single-screen cinema halls have announced that they would screen the movie tomorrow and are already witnessing massive advance bookings.

Fanaa is seen as the comeback of actress Kajol.
