Chennai, Feb 18: The Tamil Nadu Muslim Makkal Katchi has sent a notice to Uttar Pradesh Minister Yaqoob Quershi for announcing a Rs 51 crore cash award to whosoever killed the Danish cartoonist who drew the sketches of Prophet Mohamed, demanding that he withdraw his statement and tender an open unqualified public apology directly in writing.

If the minister failed to do so within three days of receipt of the notice, civil and criminal proceedings would be instituted against him, the TNMMK said in its notice.

The TNMMK said the minister's statement was tantamount to instigation to murder and a serious offence of the laws of the land.

Quereshi's statement may tempt 'wicked' human beings, Indian or foreign, to commit the crime and come to India to claim the reward, thereby rupturing the relations between India and that foreign nation. It was an open invitation to a criminal to come to India, they said.

The minister's statement was a gospel of slaughter, which was reprehensible to say the least, the TNMMK said and demanded that he tender the apology.
