Cairo: Turkey and Egypt tried to seek more
common grounds, with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib
Erdogan presenting his country as a role model for the African
nation.
The prime ministers of both the countries met here for
talks and held a joint press conference soon afterwards.
Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf called for closer
ties between the two countries which he sees as having a lot
of common history and sharing identical views on current
affairs.
Hinting on Israel`s stance on the two countries, with
which it witnessed heightened tensions last week, Sharaf said
the highest values for both countries were respect for human
rights, dignity and justice.
The Egyptian-Turkish economic, trade and investment
cooperation are expected to exponentially grow after the visit
which aims to increase trade exchange from 3 to 5 billion US
dollars and joint investments from 1.5 to 5 billion US dollars
in the few coming years.
A number of agreements and protocols were signed to
support this.
The Turkish prime minister arrived in Cairo on
September 12 on a three-day visit to Egypt as part of a North
African tour that will take him to Tunisia and Libya later.
