New Delhi: Temperatures took a dip in North India on Friday as most parts of the region were lashed by rains while higher reaches of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh witnessed a fresh bout of snowfall.
The national capital witnessed cloudy weather today while some parts experienced slight rains.
The upper reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains, bringing down day temperature across the Valley by couple of notches.
Kupwara town and Gulmarg resort in north Kashmir and Pahalgam in south Kashmir witnessed snowfall last night while rest of the Valley was lashed by light to moderate rains, an official of the Met department said.
While the day temperature dropped by a couple of notches across the Valley, the minimum temperature saw an upward movement.
The mercury in Gulmarg resort of North Kashmir rose by 2.5 degrees to settle at minus 4.5 deg C last night while Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of 0.4 deg C, up by over four degrees.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 2.7 deg C.
The biting cold wave conditions revived in Himachal Pradesh as the higher reaches received moderate to heavy snowfall while lower hills were lashed by rains, bringing down the temperatures considerably across the hill state.
Stormy condition prevailed in the region with sharp decline in day temperature which fell by 6-8 deg C across the state, the minimum temperature dropped marginally by 1 to 2 deg C, MeT office sources said.
The state capital Shimla experienced light snowfall while tourist resorts, Narkanda, Manali, Sangla and Sarahan had another bout of moderate snow.
The high altitude tribal areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Pangi, Rohtang pass and other high mountains passes received intermittent heavy snowfall this afternoon.
Rains also lashed Punjab and Haryana, bringing down the
day temperature even as the minimum in certain areas continued the upward trend.
Karnal with a low of six deg C was the coldest in the region. Amritsar recorded a low of 11 deg C, four notches above the normal while in Ludhiana the mercury settled at 12.2 deg C, two notches above normal and Chandigarh recorded 13.2 deg C, four notches above normal.
A few places in the desert state of Rajasthan also received light rainfall accompanied with heavy winds.
