New Delhi: Kamal Nath, the Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs, has said that there was no need for further debate on the issue of allowing FDI in multi-brand retail.

Speaking to Swati Chaturvedi of Zeenews.com on her chat show Kahiye Janab, Kamal Nath said in the new policy announced by the Centre, “we have enabled states to take their own decision on FDI in multi-brand retail”.

Dubbing the term “policy paralysis” as a media creation, the minister said it takes time to formulate policies and arrive at a consensus.

He noted that the immediate priority is strengthening the economy and employment generation.

He also dubbed claims of “UPA’s demise” as premature, saying the alliance will come back to power in 2014.

With regards to the leader of the Congress party for the next elections, Kamal Nath said there was still time to decide who will be the PM candidate.

“When elections come then we will decide who will be the leader,” he said.

In response to a question on Rahul Gandhi, the minister said it would be good if Rahul leads the party into next elections. “But he will decide on that,” he added.

Responding to a question on returning to his home state Madhya Pradesh, where the Congress has been out of power for many years, Kamal Nath said he will go back when the need arises.

“Right now, I have no desire to be the chief minister of MP. But I will accept the position if the party wants me to,” he added.
