Gorakhpur, Feb 07: Two motorcyclists were run
over by an unidentified car in Gorakhpur on Friday night, which locals
alleged belonged to the cavalcade of Bhojpuri singer and SP
candidate from here Manoj Tiwari.
According to police, the victims Rajkumar Gupta and
Pintu of Sangrampur village were crushed by the speeding car
near Jarlahi bridge here. The bodies of the duo were found by
villagers soon after the accident.
Claiming that a car in the motorcade of Tiwari killed
the two, angry villagers held a demonstration till 2:30 am and
relented only after police assured them a fair inquiry into
the incident. A case has been registered by the police in this regard.
Senior Superintendent of Police RK Srivastava said that
the identity of the vehicle has not been established yet but
the investigation is on, adding the bodies have been sent for
post-morterm.
Reacting to the allegations, Tiwari, the SP candidate
from Gorakhpur Sadar Parliamentary seat, said, “These
allegations are baseless. This is a political conspiracy
against my growing fame in Gorakhpur".
"Everyone including the media has seen that during the
roadshow, my car follows the police jeep. So if my car had
caused the accident, it could have been stopped or media would
have telecasted it," he was quoted as telling TV channels.
