Mumbai, Nov 28: Even as the fierce gun battle between security forces and the terrorists holed up in various parts of Mumbai entered into its final stage, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra R R Patil on Friday said that a NSG-like body will be set up shortly to counter terrorist activities in the state.
Addressing a press gathering outside the Trident Hotel, Patil confirmed that the ongoing operation inside the Oberoi met with success when two terrorists were gunned down by the security forces.
The minister further informed that they have gathered important clues suggesting a foreign hand behind the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
Patil also confirmed reports, which suggested that the terrorists have taken a sea route to enter the economic capital of India.
The minister also admitted that the present coastal security apparatus of the state is not efficient enough to check unauthorised intrusion through the sea route.
Elaborating more on the operation launched by the security forces, Patil said that a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the terrorists.
The Deputy Chief Minister further stated that one Pakistani terrorist has been nabbed.
Meanwhile, Patil also made an emotional appeal to the people of Maharshtra not to believe false rumours spread by the some elements, who wanted to create panic and complicate government’s efforts.
