Hyderabad, Nov 08: A conglomerate of top Muslim
clerics on Saturday raised its voice against terrorism and endorsed
a fatwa issued by the Darul Uloom Deoband on the stand of
Islam towards world peace.
The Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind (JUH) asserted during its two-day
conference here that it was for promoting communal harmony in
the country and was totally opposed to any form of terrorism.
The JUH conference assumes significance as it is being
held at a time when "a sinister campaign is going on in an
organized manner to tarnish the image of Islam," according to
the clerics attending it.
JUH general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Maulana
Mahmood Madani dubbed the so-called terrorists as "mad"
people. "They (terrorists) may be of any religion. But we
should see them only as mad people," Madani said at the
inaugural session of the JUH conference.
"Islam is the religion of peace. In its eyes, spreading
mischief, rioting, breach of peace, bloodshed and killing of
innocent people and plundering in any part of the earth are
the most inhuman crimes," the JUH said, endorsing the fatwa
issued by the Darul Uloom Deoband.
The Deoband's rector Maulana Marghoob-ur-Rehman, JUH
president Maulana Qari Mohammed Usman and other senior leaders
also spoke on the occasion.
Over 6000 Islamic clerics from across the country were
attending the conference.
As many as 1350 delegates from Deoband in Uttar
Pradesh have arrived for the conference by a special train.
Apart from a resolution against terrorism, the JUH
conference will also adopt 20 other resolutions on promotion
of national integration, reservations for Muslims,
implementation of the Sachchar Committee and Ranganath
Committee reports, Wakf issues, US aggression in Palestine,
Iraq and Afghanistan.
A public meeting will be held in connection with the
JUH conference at the Nizam College ground here tomorrow which
will be attended among others by Rajya Sabha deputy chairman K
Rahman Khan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara
Reddy, Art of Living guru Ravi Shankar and film maker Mahesh
Bhatt.
