Bangalore, May 26: After its poll debacle in the
Karnataka assembly election, the JD(S) on Monday charged the BJP
of making attempts to split the party to get the requisite
numbers for a comfortable majority.
"BJP has been sending feelers to our MLAs to cross over to
it. None of our men will oblige them. We are all united. We
have called our legislature party meet tomorrow," former Chief
Minister H D Kumaraswamy said here.
Kumaraswamy said an "important" person also had a
telephonic talk on behalf of BJP, requesting for JDS' outside
support to the saffron party but emphatically ruled it out
saying "such proposal is not before us at all".
Asked if the party is interested in supporting Congress
in government formation, he said, "we will not make moves. If
Congress takes the initiative, we will think about it".
JDS, which had 58 seats in the previous assembly, won
only 28 seats in the current round of elections.
Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister has contacted the
party rebel Goolihatti Shekar who won the Hosadurga seat
asking him not to support BJP.
However, Shekar attended the BJP legislature party
meeting, making it clear that he would go with BJP as the
saffron party wooed the independents to make the numbers after
it fell short of three seats for a simple majority.
The party won 110 seats in the 224-member assembly.
Addressing a press conference, state unit JDS working
president C Narayanaswamy, however, said there was no proposal
"as of now" before the party to support Congress in government
formation. He admitted that "betrayal" card raked up by
BJP was one of the issues that led to the JDS rout at
the hustings.
