Romania
For the first time since Euro 2000, Romania will be a part of a major tournament, and while that achievement is cause for celebration, the party is not expected to last long.
Despite beating out the Netherlands and Bulgaria to win its qualifying group, Romania was rewarded with the toughest draw in the entire competition after being placed in the "Group of Death" with Italy, France and the Dutch.
The Romanians who have risen to 12th in the FIFA rankings will be pinning their hopes to Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu, who will be expected to shoulder the scoring load and give his team a chance to stun the heavyweights.
The tournament will be a chance for the 29-year-old Mutu to once again establish himself as one of Europe's top strikers.
Goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont will help anchor the defense along with captain Cristian Chivu and outside back Cosmin Contra.
Realistically speaking, the knockout phase looks a long shot for Romania. Their only hope will be a huge tournament from Mutu. The team has a strong defense, but unlike Italy and France, lack in creativity in the midfield.
