Austria
Tournament co-hosts Austria, on paper, are the weakest side not only in the group but in the entire tournament and it will take more than just magic if they are to go through.
Results in friendlies over the past two years too haven’t done anything to inspire confidence of their supporters and it will be a pleasant surprise for them if Austria is still in with a chance when they face the Germans in their third match in Vienna on June 16.
Josef Hickersberger is in his second spell as coach, the first was doomed by an embarrassing defeat by the Faroe Islands, and his real target will be avoiding further humiliation.
Austria have never qualified for a UEFA European Championship final tournament before, and so will be playing in the finals for the first time. They came within one round of the four-team final tournament of the inaugural 1960 competition, but lost 9-4 on aggregate to France in the quarter-finals.
