Denmark entered the 1992 edition despite failing to qualify as they replaced Yugoslavia who were disqualified due to the Balkan crisis. Despite the late entry, the Danes surprised the football fraternity by winning the competition, beating Germany 2-0 in the final.
Germany has won the tournament a maximum number of times, i.e 3, followed by the French who have won it twice.
Eight of the 16 teams in 2008 Euro Cup have lifted the cup atleast once before. On the other hand two of teams will be making their debuts at Euro Championships, with co-hosts Austria being one of them.
The host nation has gone on to win the Championship only thrice in the 12 editions held so far. Spain (1964), Italy (1968) and France (1984) hold this distinction.
