What better way to begin the year but with a hearty laugh, loads of fun and a series of poke fun jokes on the most comical, goofball political leaders of all times George W Bush. ‘The President Is Coming,’ a political spoof on US outgoing President Bush is your ticket to wholesome fun at the Box Office this week.
Starring Konkana Sen Shrama, Ira Dubey, Shernaz Patel, Shivani Tanksale the film that hit theaters today couldn’t have had a better timing. Just as the world bids farewell to President George W Bush, India celebrates his departure with a slapstick comedy on his amateurish ways.
The film dates back to the much-hyped Bush visit to India in 2006. The story follows the frenzy of the US consulate that has been allocated the task of finding one Indian who represents the youth of the country and would be the chosen one to shake hands with the President.
What follows next is a series of funny incidents that take a dig at the typical Indian craze for US. First come PR executives Shernaz Patel and her quirky assistant Shivani Tanksale, are to select the ‘lucky hand shaker’. The two short-list 6 wannabes; who’ll go to any extent for the propitious opportunity.
Here goes their 6 goofballs character analysis:
Enters Konkana Sen Sharma, a Bengali novelist who is aspiring to bag the prestigious Booker award. Ira Dubey the spoilt brat, a daddy’s girl who has got a hefty bank account and contacts at the right places. Puranik, who is the confused social worker, next in line is a software engineer (Das) who is endlessly flirting with girls to hide his true sexual inclination. Then comes a Gujju (Tiwari), who thinks the Ambanis are the richest in the world, and last but funniest of all is an accent-trainer from Gurgaon who's hell bent on getting the green card.
Pitted against one another, the six employ every trick in the book to outwit each other. Filled with tongue-in-cheek remarks, the film is funny, cheeky and an assured laugh riot.
Three cheers for this one!
