Tharoor on `clean up` campaign, tears down his poll posters

Thiruvananthapuram, May15: After conducting a high profile campaign to win from this Lok Sabha seat, former UN diplomat and Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor is back on the streets again, this time to give it a clean look by removing his election posters off city walls.
The former UN Under Secretary, along with a group of supporters, was seen tearing down his posters in some parts of the city.

"This is a beautiful city. I don`t want to disfigure the walls with pictures of politicians after the elections. I want to set a model by removing the posters," Tharoor said.

Tharoor, who is pitted against CPI`s P Ramachandran Nair said the action did not mean that he would compel others to follow suit. "Anyway I have decided to remove all the posters of UDF from the walls," he said.

During his campaign, Tharoor had said if elected, he would work out a plan to make Thiruvananathapuram the global centre of excellence in higher education like the US city of Boston, besides developing tourism and providing momentum to pending schemes like the Vizhinjam project.
