Cong should support Pawar as PM: Sangma
|
Guwahati/New Delhi, May 15: Divergent voices emerged
from NCP on Friday with its senior leader P A Sangma insisting
that Congress should "gracefully" support a Third Front
government led by Sharad Pawar, a view his colleague Praful
Patel did not find viable.
"We are trying for a non-Congress and non-BJP government
to be headed by Sharad Pawar. Congress should gracefully
support the candidature of Pawar as the next Prime Minister.
That will be good for the Congress party," Sangma told
reporters in Guwahati.
"Already there is a lot of support for Pawar from Jayalalithaa of AIDMK, Navin Patnaik of BJD, Chiranjeevi of Praja Rajyam in Andhra Pradesh and Manohar Joshi of Shiv Sena," the former Lok Sabha speaker said.
He said the NCP units of North East and Jammu and Kashmir had the "unanimous view that we (NCP) should have nothing to do with Congress."
Attacking Congress, he said the party "has no respect whatsoever for its own Prime Minister."
The Congress could not be trusted as it had betrayed the NCP in forming the government in Meghalaya, a statement of the NCP`s NE units, said.
