CBI not pressurised on Quattrocchi issue: Priyanka
|
Rae Bareli, April 28: As the Congress came under a
renewed attack on the Bofors issue, Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday
rejected the BJP`s charge that the UPA government was misusing
CBI and had pressurised it to give a clean chit to accused
Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi in the case.
"Absolutely not," the Congress star campaigner told
reporters when asked about BJP`s charge that the Congress had
pressurised CBI to ask Interpol to remove Quattrocchi for its
list of wanted persons.
"How it is related to elections?", she retorted to
repeated queries on the Quattrocchi issue.
On the Supreme Court order for a probe into the
alleged role of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in
post-Godhra riots, Priyanka said, "whenever such a thing
happens, it should be investigated."
Priyanka, who has had a verbal duel with Modi during
the campaign, slammed him for "raising of issues not
concerned to people".
"In these election days, you see lot of irrelevant
talk by the leaders but none of them speak about development.
A leader is saying `gudia` while some other is saying `budia`.
All these are useless talks.
"Only Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh talk about development. Rest are engaged in
irrelevant speaks," Priyanka said at an election meeting in
support of her mother Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Earlier, Modi had described the Congress party as a
124-year-old `budia` (old woman). When Priyanka had retorted
with "Do I look old?", the Gujarat chief minister referred to
the party as a `gudia` doll.
Asked about CPI-M leader Prakash Karat`s statement
that Congress should support a Third Front government and the
Left would like the country`s next Prime Minister to be from
Lok Sabha, Priyanka said, "Congress has cleared its stand. Our
next Prime Minister will be Manmohan Singh."
She expressed confidence that that Congress would be
able to form the next government.
Reacting to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati`s
charge that the UPA government did not release money for
dalit`s development, a day after Rahul Gandhi had in Barabanki
accused BSP of wasting central funds, Priyanka said, "Rahul ji
had given even statistics about how much money the Centre
gives to the state government. But it`s expenditure was not
visible nor was development."
Asked whether her joining Rahul at Barabanki public
meeting yesterday was any indication of her plans to join full
fledged politics, Priyanka said there was no "political
thinking" behind it.
"I had not seen my brother for more than 10 day. So
when I went to meet him at the airport he asked me to
accompany him. There was no political thinking behind it. I
did not even deliver any speech there," Priyanka said.
She also replied in negative on whether she would
campaign for Congress in constituencies other than Amethi and
Rae Bareli.
