Kerala High Court sends notice to BCCI to lift lifetime ban on S Sreesanth

Trivandrum: The Kerala High Court on Friday sent a notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on a petition filed by out of favour bowler S Sreesanth to lift the lifetime ban imposed on him.

The 34-year-old fast bowler was accused of involving in spot-fixing during the 2013 season of Indian Premier League but in July 2015, was acquitted in the case.

This development comes after Sreesanth had approached the High Court on March 1st. The next hearing in the matter is on March 5.

Sreesanth has also been denied a No Objection Certificate by the BCCI, which prevents him from playing in cricket tournaments.

The pacer has mentioned in his petition, that he was invited by Scotland`s Glenroth Club for playing premier league there from the first week of April this year, for which the NOC from the BCCI was mandatory.

In 2015, a Delhi court exonerated Sreesanth along with two other players in the case registered by Delhi Police which invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Sreesanth also shared his ordeal of being inside the prison with several other criminals.

After 12 days, I was sent to Tihar Jail. I was in a dormitory with 450 criminals inside. I was in jail for 27 days, the experience was horrific. They also said something about money laundering and mentions of Dawood (Ibrahim). They also apparently had a conversation between the two of us as well. There was a voice test as well which I passed. They eventually had nothing against me. I got my bail on the 27th day in Tihar.

Sreesanth, the second Keralite to represent the country, played in 27 Tests taking 87 wickets, and picked up 75 scalps from 53 One-day Internationals and seven wickets from 10 T20 Internationals.
