Karnataka all-party meet rejects Cauvery Tribunal's Award
Updated on Saturday, February 24, 2007, 00:00 IST
Bangalore, Feb 24: Rejecting the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's Award on water sharing as "detrimental" to Karnataka's interests, an all-party meeting today decided that all "legal remedies" should be exhausted by the state to secure "justice" for it.

Link all rivers to avoid strife among states: Karuna

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said that considering the stand taken by Karnataka and Kerala on the Cauvery and Mullaperiyar Dam issues, it would be better to link all rivers to avoid strife among states for water, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said today.

"The Centre should take this as a warning since there would be a possible division or discord among the people of neighbouring states over the sharing of water", Karunanidhi said.

After laying the foundation stone for an IT park worth about Rs 800 crore, and various other schemes here, he said, "Tamil Nadu is facing problems from its neighbours-- Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh over water issue".

Karnataka was not abiding by the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and instead resorting to violence, Karunanidhi alleged. Even Kerala is not willing to obey Supreme Court orders on Mullaperiyar Dam issue, he said.

Karnataka, without indulging in any violence, can appeal to the tribunal to sort out its grievances, he said.

Tamil Nadu, after an all-party meeting, decided to approach the tribunal, since the state was not satisfied with the verdict, he added.
