Raipur, Dec 08: Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress (CPCC)
president Dhanendra Sahu today took moral responsibility for
the party`s defeat in the state Assembly elections and said
the party failed to highlight the alleged corruption and
incompetence of the BJP government.
Sahu also resigned from his post. The party said it would
play a constructive opposition`s role in the Assembly.
Former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, who won the Marwahi
assembly seat in Bilaspur with a huge margin, told agencies at his
residence here that the party accepted defeat and that the
Congress would work as a constructive opposition in the
Assembly.
About the reasons for Congress` debacle in the state,
Jogi said it is too early to spell out the reasons but added
that the party would ponder over it in the coming days.
However, the party in the state said its failure to
"expose corruption and incompetence" of the BJP government and
register its presence in the tribal belt allowed the saffron
party to emerge victorious.
The Congress also did not succeed in making its presence
felt among the tribals, they said.
The party also alleged that "largescale irregularities
in final electoral roll also helped the BJP retain power in
the state.
Sahu said the party would soon undertake a detailed
review of the Congress` defeat in the elections.
Party spokesperson Rajesh Bissa said Sahu has already
sent his resignation to AICC chief Sonia Gandhi soon after the
poll results.
Sahu lost the Assembly election from the Abhanpur
Assembly constituency.
